Apple Pie Recipe
Tart cooking apples make the best pies!!! These apples don’t need to be peeled as there skin is so thin.
Core apples, cut into slices to make about 6 cups sliced apples
Combine 2/3 to 1 cup sugar depending on the tartness of the apples
1/2 tsp cinnamon or nutmeg
1/8 tsp salt
Place 1/2 apple slices in the pastry lined pie plate. Sprinkle with half the sugar mixture. Add remaining apples,
heaping them in the center. Sprinkle rest of sugar mixture on top
Dot with 1 tbsp butter
Moisten edge of pastry. Place top crust in position. Seal edge and flute.
Before baking brush egg white over top of crust then sprinkle it with white sugar.
Bake in preheated oven at 400 for 40 to 50 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
NOTE: If apples are especially juicy, combine 1 tbsp pre sifted flour with the sugar mixture. If the apples are dry, sprinkle them with about 2 tbsp water
